Wembley Stadium could become an even more central location for the European Championship

The final location in London could have more European football matches than previously planned. According to a report in the British newspaper “Telegraph” there are efforts in the European Football Union (UEFA) to reward England's federation for its consistent rejection of the Super League, which imploded this week. It is possible that the EM games of the wobbly candidate Dublin go completely or partially to Wembley, it said.

In addition to Dublin and Bilbao, Munich was not yet sure of its games before the final decision by the UEFA Executive Committee on the European Championship venues on Friday. The chances of the Bavarian capital are likely to keep at least the three group games of the German national team. However, due to the uncertain spectator situation, the planned quarter-finals could possibly be relocated from Munich to another location.

The Executive Committee of the Continental Association will meet in a video conference on Friday at 10 a.m. to decide on the three cities. Unlike nine other host locations, these had not given any guarantee that spectators would enter the stadiums despite the corona pandemic. Bilbao itself announced on Wednesday evening that the city's hosting rights had been withdrawn. Dublin could also be canceled at Friday’s meeting, according to reports.

The venues of the Austrian team, however, are not up for debate. The ÖFB selection will meet North Macedonia in the group stage on June 13 in Bucharest and the Ukraine there on June 21. In between, the game against the Netherlands is scheduled for June 17th in Amsterdam.
