President of Abkhazia Aslan Bzhaniya signed decrees recognizing the independence of the Donetsk and Luhansk People's Republics (DPR and LPR), the press service of the head of the republic reported.
The presidential administration clarified that Abkhazia has special relations with the peoples of these republics. “And every citizen of Abkhazia sincerely sympathizes with their struggle for justice, for the right to a decent life,” the message says. According to Bzhaniya, the fates of Abkhazia, the DPR and the LPR are similar.
“From the very beginning of hostilities against the inhabitants of Donbass, we have watched the Ukrainian authorities repeat exactly the mistakes of Georgia in relation to Abkhazia and South Ossetia,” the president stressed.
Earlier, the representative of the People's Militia of the DPR, Eduard Basurin, reported on the worsening situation in the Donbass, called what was happening a genocide and turned to Russia for help. After that, on February 24, Russia launched a military operation to protect Donbass.
