~6 0~p>She was in a coma for three months and underwent 114 operations.

Belgian native Patricia Lefran shared a terrible story about how her ex-lover doused her with acid.

She told Metro about this.

In 2009, 45-year-old Patricia decided to break off her relationship with her married lover. 57-year-old Richard Remes was so angry that he decided to take revenge by using sulfuric acid.

December 1 Richard came to the woman’s apartment and pretended to be a courier. When Patricia came out, she immediately recognized her ex. However, before she could say or do anything, the man doused her with acid.

“The pain immediately became unbearable, so I fell to the ground and screamed, and he shook my whole body and pushed me with his legs. I looked at my right arm and saw that the skin was melting, and it was just terrible. To escape, I called the elevator building, but then suddenly changed my mind because I thought I was going to die and I didn't want to die in the elevator. I wanted to go outside and find help, but the attacker was still in the lobby. So he took the opportunity to grab me by my long hair and wrap it around my wrist. He lifted my head and poured the acid right into my face. I never saw Richard again and have no idea what happened to him up to that point. I really thought my body had reached the pain threshold, and my “My brain said stop. I knew I needed to get out of the building and call for help, and then go to the next building where my old bosses worked. They came to look outside when they heard me scream,” Lefran recalled.

They were the ones who called the ambulance. However, Patricia was sure that she would die before the doctors arrived. She fell into a coma. When the woman came to her senses three months later, her sister and her three children were next to her. When she was alone, she found a mirror and was shocked by her reflection.

“My ruined face looked back at me. I was treated for serious burns in a military hospital, where I stayed for nine months. I then had many operations – 80 in total. These included multiple skin grafts, amputation of the ring finger and left ear, and also had to “I had to have my left eye removed. I also had surgery on my leg because the acid had glued the nerve to the bone in my leg. Then I went to another hospital for rehabilitation to be taught how to walk properly. To date, I have had 114 surgeries,” she said.

Patricia assisted the police with their investigation throughout her recovery and believes they did a good job.

Richard was charged with attempted murder. During the trial, the attacker never looked at his victim.

< p >He was eventually found guilty and sentenced to 30 years in prison, where he remains to this day. When the verdict was handed down, Patricia was relieved that her truth had been accepted.

“It was important to me that he understood what he had done and that he saw that I was still alive. Richard attacked me after I ended a relationship we had been in for less than a year – even at that time we spent a lot of time apart. I put the finishing touches when he told me that he was accused of murdering a 16-month-old baby in 1988. In fact, he was on trial for the second time after being convicted because of me, and was found guilty of murdering a child – he will receive another 17 years in prison,” the woman said.

Lefran shares her story to raise awareness of the challenges acid attack survivors face. The challenge, she said, is to stop the cheapness, easy access and availability of acid. After the attack, she created a petition to regulate the sale of sulfuric acid in Belgium.

Patricia also wrote the book Vitriolée! about his experiences and lectures and speaks at schools. On a personal note, the woman is looking forward to seeing her two grandchildren grow up.

“I'm so grateful to be alive,” she added.

Remember, a child was born without eyes due to a rare disease that affects only 30 people in the world. During pregnancy, doctors said that the child was absolutely healthy.
