A woman from the Thai province of Nakhon Si Thammarat found ambergris (thickened vomit of a sperm whale) on the beach, worth more than 19 million rubles. Reported by the Daily Mail.
49-year-old Siriporn Niomrin was walking along the beach after a rainstorm and saw the mass thrown out by the waves. The find smelled like fish and she decided to take it home, hoping that she could make money on it.
The neighbors suggested to the woman that it could be ambergris, an extremely valuable substance used in the perfumery industry. To test their guesses, they brought the mass to the fire. It began to melt, and upon cooling it hardened again. Ambergris is distinguished by this property.
The volume of found ambergris is more than usual. She weighs about seven kilograms.
“I was lucky to find such a large piece,” the woman says. “I hope she brings me money.”
The woman has already asked the local authorities to confirm the authenticity of the ambergris.
