A resident of the Scottish island of Sunday found a message in a bottle on the beach, which was sent 26 years ago. It is reported by the John O'Groat Journal.
Johanna Gilbert was walking her dog on the beach and saw a small plastic bottle among the stones.
Inside, the tartan found a paper note. Although the paper was torn in two, the name and address could be read on it. “Please return this to David Bremner, 9 Main Street, Leibster, Caithness, Scotland.” The note stated the date: October 27, 1994.
It turned out that the sender's mother still lives at this address. Bremner himself moved to the vicinity of the Scottish city of Wick. He was delighted to learn of Gilbert's find.
“I am very grateful to Johanna Gilbert for finding me and reporting the find. I'm surprised the bottle took so long to cover such a short distance. I completely forgot about her, ”he said. Bremner was 13 years old when he threw the bottle into the sea.
Leibster resident Andrew Gunn suggested that Bremner may have sent a message to commemorate the annual event in the village, when the villagers had a bottle race. This event is usually held in August, but it was probably in October that year, or Bremner just wanted to find penpals.
Presumably, the bottle got stuck in the coastal cliffs, was recently freed during a storm and continued on its way to Sunday Island.
Earlier it was reported that a resident of the Scottish village of Galberwick found a message in a bottle, which was sent by a group of scouts from the Faroe Islands at the end of the last century.
