Canadian dermatologists have advised everyone who spends long periods of time in the sun to use sunscreen in order to prevent the development of melanoma, a particularly deadly and aggressive type of skin cancer that quickly metastases. The way to protect against tumors is named in a press release on EurekAlert !, an article by researchers published in the Canadian Medical Association Journal.
It is known that most skin cancers develop from prolonged exposure to the sun. SPF30 sunscreens reduce the risk of skin cancer by blocking harmful UV radiation with chemical filters such as titanium dioxide and zinc oxide. An analysis of a number of randomized controlled trials has shown that they actually help prevent the appearance of melanoma and squamous cell skin cancer, as well as inhibit skin aging.
At the same time, experts do not recommend applying creams to the body of babies up to six months old due to the possibility of absorption by the body of the components that make up the protective agents. In addition, they can have harmful effects on the environment, so you should also avoid being in direct sunlight, for example, wearing wide-brimmed hats and trying to stay in the shade if the UV index exceeds 3 on an 11-point scale.
