Associate Professor of the Department of Informatics of the PRUE Plekhanov, Alexander Timofeev, in an interview with the Prime agency, revealed to the Russians a way to discover that the site is being followed by users.
The expert explained that when you visit websites, you can increasingly come across a notification about the use of cookies. This is how technical developers collect information about the user while visiting the site. They can, in particular, find out how much time a person spent on the site, what product or text on the site attracted his attention, through which hyperlinks he got to the site, whether he made purchases.
All this data is necessary for developers to determine the effectiveness of the site, and then improve and monetize it. As the specialist pointed out, if the user does not want sites to collect information about him in this way, the files can be blocked in a browser on a stationary computer or laptop. “At the same time, this feature is not available to browser users on mobile devices,” he added.
In August, Anomaly Six, a US government-affiliated company, was caught spying on millions of people. The organization has built proprietary software into more than 500 applications, making smartphones a tracking tool for locating users. The resulting data is only sold to private companies and not to government institutions.
