63-year-old David Franklin Slater was telling secret information to a woman allegedly living in Ukraine.
The US Air Force employee was divided into dating site with secret information about the war in Ukraine.
This was reported by the US Department of Justice.
63-year-old David Franklin Slater from Nebraska worked as a civilian employee of the US Air Force at the US Strategic Command (USSTRATCOM) and held a Top Secret clearance from August 2021 until approximately April 2022 after retiring as a US Lieutenant Colonel.
According to American law enforcement, Slater communicated on a dating site with a woman who claimed to live in Ukraine.
The woman regularly asked Slater to provide her with confidential, non-public, secret information and referred to Slater in her messages as her “favorite secret informant” and her “secret agent.” In response to these requests, Slater did provide her with classified information, including military objectives and Russian military capabilities related to Russia's invasion of Ukraine.
Message from the “beloved from Ukraine” to Slater:
The man was detained on March 2 on suspicion of disclosing classified information. He faces a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison, three years of supervised release and a fine of up to $250,000 for each charge.
Earlier, the young American National Guardsman Jack Teixeira fell into a similar story.
He published the secret Pentagon Papers in an online gaming group. Part of the data concerned the Ukrainian counter-offensive.
April 13, the FBI arrested a 21-year-old military man. Teixeira was identified through a countertop in his kitchen. It subsequently became known that 21-year-old Teixeira wanted to kill “a bunch of people” and had Russian military tags.
Yesterday, March 4, it became known that Teixeira pleaded guilty and agreed to at least 11 years in prison. Prosecutors plan to ask for 16 years.
