A tsunami threat has been declared in the Kuril Islands

Amid the eruption of an underwater volcano near the islands of Tonga in the Kuril Islands, a tsunami threat has been declared. This was reported by RIA Novosti with reference to a source in emergency services.

The interlocutor of the agency clarified that the specialists of the Tsunami Center of the Sakhalin UGMS predict a possible approach to the Kuril Islands of a tsunami wave no more than 0.2 meters high (for Japan – 0.3 meters).

It is alleged that there is no threat to the population and territory of the country. Representatives of two ports in the Yuzhno-Kuril and Kuril urban districts have already been warned.
