Already in 100 years, the level of the World Ocean may rise by five meters, which will entail a new great migration of peoples who now live in the most densely populated areas. But humanity can slow down this process. This was announced by climatologist, associate professor of the Agrotechnological Academy Vladimir Ryabov on the air of the radio “Sputnik in Crimea”.
According to Ryabov, a sea level rise of just a few meters could lead to the fact that 30% of the most densely populated areas of the Earth will be flooded. In turn, this will cause the resettlement of a large number of people, the transfer of industries and housing.
As the scientist said, if the speed persists, then a significant rise in sea level can be seen as early as 2050. But if countries reduce greenhouse gas emissions, thereby slowing down the process of global warming, forecasts may not come true, and the rise in the level of the World Ocean can be postponed by 100-200 or even 300 years.
