In the US, a student went to a bar with his friend, but that was the last time he was seen.
In the US, 27-year-old Ohio State University medical student Brian Shaffer went to a bar with his roommate 17 years ago to celebrate the start of spring break. The man then disappeared and was never seen again.
Mirror writes about it.
William Florence and Brian Shaffer went to the Ugly Tuna Bar around 10:00 pm on March 31, 2006. At the bar, the friends relaxed, drinking shots and playing drinking games. Later, the guys went to the Arena and Short North area. William's girlfriend, Meredith Reed, offered to give them a ride back to the Ugly Tuna, where they would continue their night.
Surveillance footage from the outside shows the three of them riding the escalator to the second-floor entrance of the bar around 1:15 am on April 1, 2006.
Brian then went outside around 2:00 a.m. and was seen talking to two women before disappearing.
Meredith and William tried several times to call Brian, but he didn't answer and the calls went straight to voice mail. The couple went home after the bar closed and thought Brian would contact them the next day.
Randy Shaffer, Brian's father, also tried to call his son, but Brian didn't pick up, which worried him a lot.
And on Monday morning, Brian was booked on a flight to see his girlfriend, but he never showed up at the airport.
On that day, Brian Shaffer was put on the wanted list, more than 50 police officers were sent in search of a medical student.
Brian's friends and family were interrogated and took the polygraph, with the exception of his roommate William, who refused to take the polygraph.
Alexis Wagoner, William's girlfriend, called his cell every day hoping he would pick up the phone, but he didn't answer.
However, five months after the disappearance of Brian, in September 2006, his phone worked again, Alexis called her beloved three times, hoping that he was still alive.
But because his phone did not have GPS enabled, his location could not be determined, and the mobile operator claimed that it could have been an accident.
The Columbus Police Department, after checking all available cameras near the Ugly Tuna bar, suggested that Brian may have changed or left the bar through a construction exit.
However, the missing student's parents dismiss these theories, claiming he had a bright future and nothing to hide from.
Brian's phone, credit cards, and bank accounts were inactive for over a year, leading his family to believe that he would never return.
However, in 2020, there was a possible breakthrough in the search for the missing person when a photo was posted on social media that showed a man who looked like Brian in the Mexican city of Tijuana. But after a thorough analysis of the face of the FBI, it turned out that it was a homeless man.
The FBI compiled a portrait of Brian to show what he might look like now, but unfortunately there were no reports of him.
A $100,000 reward was offered for information about his whereabouts.
And, despite the theory that Brian allegedly lives in another part of the world and under a new name, according to the police, this will never be proven.
Recall that an American lawyer was sentenced to life for the murder of his wife and son.
