Pharaohs parade in Cairo

Moscow. April, 4. INTERFAX.RU – The ceremony for the transportation of the mummies of the Egyptian pharaohs was held in the Egyptian capital Cairo. It is reported by BBC News.

As a result, 22 mummies (18 pharaohs and four queens) were transported from the Cairo Egyptian Museum to the National Museum of Egyptian Civilization. The procession went in chronological order of reigns – from the ruler of the 17th dynasty Sekenenre Taa II to Ramses IX, who ruled in the XII century BC.

Pandemic restrictions on outdoor gatherings have been lifted. The grandiose ceremony, called by its organizers the “golden parade of the pharaohs”, began at 20.00 Cairo time (21.00 Moscow time). Each mummy was transported in a separate car, decorated and equipped with special shock absorbers, and surrounded by a cortege with copies of war chariots drawn by horses.

At the time of the move, the mummies were placed in special boxes filled with nitrogen. This method helps to protect the mummies from external destructive factors. The roads along the route have also been paved to ensure a smooth ride.

New exhibits will be on public display from April 18th. The hall of the National Museum of Egyptian Civilization was designed in such a way as to create the feeling of being in the Valley of the Kings in Luxor.

In addition, next year, next to the pyramids in Giza, a new Great Egyptian Museum is due to open, which will house the famous collection of Tutankhamun.
