Russian Ilya Lichtenstein, who was arrested in the United States along with his wife Heather Morgan on charges of laundering $4.5 billion in stolen bitcoins, has not yet turned to the Russian Consulate General in New York for help. This was stated by RIA Novosti, Consul General Sergei Ovsyannikov.

He promised to help Liechtenstein if he or his defense appealed.

“He didn’t contact us with any questions. Neither he nor the lawyer. We don't know if he will convert or not. If he appeals, and it will be necessary to specifically decide something, then we will decide,” Ovsyannikov said.

Earlier it was reported that Lichtenstein and Morgan were allowed to leave prison on bail.

The couple is accused of trying to launder bitcoins that were stolen during a cyberattack on the Bitfinex cryptocurrency exchange in 2016. Only bitcoin wallets of users were hacked, from which hackers stole 119,756 bitcoins.
