To disseminate Russian propaganda, the agent attracted famous public figures and journalists.
The Russian agent distributed in the territory Czech RepublicRussian propaganda, attracting well-known public figures, for which he received a reward of several thousand euros.
This was stated by the director of the information and security service (counterintelligence) of the Czech Republic, Michal Koudelko, during a speech at a conference on disinformation in the lower house of the Czech parliament , broadcast by Radio Prague International.
“The point, in particular, was that this influential agent, at the request of one of the highest government bodies in Russia, ensured the dissemination of narratives supporting the foreign policy interests of the Russian Federation in connection with the war in Ukraine,” Koudelko said.
He noted that the agent recruited well-known public figures to spread Russian propaganda.
The activities of the Russian agent were concluded by the intelligence services even before the start of the full-scale invasion. He used individual journalists to promote Kremlin propaganda among Czech citizens.
“In addition to reporting from the Czech Republic, he (the Russian agent – ed.) also financed several trips abroad and sought to get journalists to create materials that the Russian side needed,” noted the director of the Service.
In addition, Czech counterintelligence recorded that Russian agents tried to establish relations with one of the organizers of anti-government demonstrations that took place last fall.
Koudelko said that Russian agents were not engaged in disinformation, but in specific lies and propaganda. In particular, the Russians tried to create a myth that the case with the Novichok substance, which was used to poison double agent Sergei Skripach in the UK in 2018, originated in the Czech Republic.
We recall that it was previously reported that the head of the Czech Ministry of Defense Yana Chernokhova warned Ukraine and Poland against increasing tensions in relations.
In addition, we previously informed that the Czech Republic may transfer Mi-24 helicopters to Ukraine, which will be written off in exchange on new American.
