Amateur astronomer Ilya Yankovsky from the Sverdlovsk region filmed a rare meteor shower – the Aurigids. He published the video and photo on his page in “Vkontakte”.
According to the State TV and Radio Company “South Ural”, the man was able to capture the peak of the meteor shower, which could be observed in the sky over the Urals on September 1. According to scientists, the Earth will not cross the tail of the comet that spawns Aurigids in this way for another 70 years.
The main distinguishing features of the Aurigids are the rarity and suddenness of their outbursts of activity. The strongest of them were recorded in 1935, 1986, 1994 and 2019.
