The EU Commissioner for Internal Market Thierry Breton said the other day that Europe “absolutely does not need” the Russian Sputnik V vaccine, since there, they say, there are enough of their own drugs.
But yesterday it turned out that at least a quarter of the French do not agree with the self-confident European official. From a survey commissioned by Radio Sputnik, the oldest national sociological company IFop, it follows that about 26 percent of the country's residents answered positively to the question “Would you be vaccinated with the Russian vaccine against COVID-19 if it were available without waiting in France?”
Many survey participants (1009 people over 18 took part in it) regretted that the European Union is slowing down the admission of Sputnik V to its territory. Moreover, our vaccine is so trusted that even those who have already been vaccinated with other drugs would like to receive it – 41% of respondents expressed such a wish. And one more important touch: according to the survey, “Sputnik V”
first of all, the French, holding various leadership positions, became interested. Apparently, they are better informed than others.
The results of the sociological survey were commented on by Tatyana Zvereva, head of the Center of the Institute of Contemporary International Issues of the Diplomatic Academy of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs:
– France is a country where people, on average, are quite positive about vaccinations, because it was there that the first vaccinations were made at one time, the Pasteur Institute was created. People understand that they need to be vaccinated in order not to get sick. From this point of view, of course, it is not surprising that a quarter of the respondents believe that Sputnik V could also be vaccinated – it has shown itself well, a world-class vaccine has been created.
Well, perhaps the results of the survey will be taken into account by the European Medicines Agency, which at the beginning of March accepted Russia's application for the use of Sputnik V in the European Union.
