Analysts found that online orders accounted for about 26% of all smartphone purchases worldwide in 2020. The pandemic helped to increase this share.
Counterpoint Research analysts concluded that the pandemic was the main driver of online sales growth in several countries. These include India (45% of sales were online), the UK (39%) and China (34%). On average, online smartphone sales in 2020 grew by 6% over the previous year.
This trend has been observed in other regions as well, including the United States and Europe. Analysts expect this trend to slow for a while, but online sales in 2021 will be about the same as last year.
