Australian zoologist Paul Marek said in an interview with Izvestia that scientists discovered a previously unknown creature with a record number of legs – there were 1306 of them. Thus, the found centipede turned out to be the record holder for the number of limbs.

The expert noted that the last record for the number of legs in a creature was 750. According to him, usually centipedes have 100-200 legs. In order to determine how many legs a newly discovered species has, it was required to count its segments. It turned out that while ordinary centipedes have two legs in one segment, the new species has four legs per segment, and there are 330 such segments.

In order to make the calculations, Marek photographed the creature with a camera with a very high resolution, and later, as he counted, he highlighted each segment in a different color on the computer. He expressed full confidence that his conclusions were correct.

Earlier, the US Fish and Wildlife Service announced the extinction of 23 species of birds and fish due to anthropogenic climate change and destruction of natural habitats. All possibilities for saving these species have been exhausted, and there is no longer any hope for their survival.
