At a hospital in the Pakistani city of Peshawar, doctors treated a pregnant woman who had a two-inch (5-centimeter) nail driven into the top of her forehead. She admitted that she agreed to such an execution from a local healer, who promised in this way to ensure her the birth of a boy.

As it turned out, the pregnant woman, who already has three daughters, was told by doctors after an ultrasound examination that she would give birth to another girl. Because her husband threatened to divorce her if she did not give birth to a boy, the woman went to a local “healer”. He offered to undergo a terrible procedure that should guarantee the birth of an heir.
Doctor Haider Khan, who assisted the victim, said that the pregnant woman, who had a nail driven into her head, was conscious and in terrible pain. In order to beat him, they used a hammer or other heavy object. She then tried to pull the nail out with pliers, but failed.
X-rays showed that the two-inch nail had pierced the top of the woman's forehead but not her brain.
