The tremors were recorded at a depth of 40 kilometers at 23:36 local time (02:36 the next day Moscow time). The epicenter of the earthquake was located 1328 kilometers from the Chilean city of Punta Arenas and 216 kilometers from the Chilean research station Bernardo O'Higgins.
