A planet similar to Earth was found in the constellation Ursa Major

A group of astronomers from Europe and the United States discovered another planet similar to Earth. It orbits a red dwarf star in the constellation Ursa Major, according to the Astrophysical Journal Letters.

The star is called Gliese 1151 and is located relatively close to us, at a distance of 26 light years. Scientists began to guess about the presence of a planet back in 2019, when they detected radio emission at a frequency of 150 MHz.

“Planets in close orbits are immersed in magnetized stellar wind from the expanding stellar corona,” the authors of the scientific work explained.

Rotating, the planets can disturb the currents of magnetized wind, and traces of this disturbance are captured by terrestrial telescopes. After analyzing all the data, astronomers concluded that there must be a rocky planet next to the star. It makes a full revolution around the star in one to five days.

Observations with telescopes and spectrometers confirmed this assumption. An earth-like planet did orbit around the star, and its orbit was 2.02 days. The minimum mass of this planet is 2.5 Earth masses.

Scientists noted that the method of searching for exoplanets using radio emission is still quite new. But the discovery of a rocky planet near the star Gliese 1151 showed its effectiveness.

Earlier it was reported that astronomers from the United States discovered a giant planet. It is five times more massive than Jupiter.
