For the first time ever, Brazil will go without a medal at the Beach Volleyball Olympics. With Alison, the 2016 Olympic champion in Rio de Janeiro, and Alvaro Filho, the last representatives of the South American nation were eliminated in the men's quarter-finals on Wednesday in Tokyo. They were defeated by the Latvians Martins Plavins / Edgars Tocs 16: 21,19: 21.
For women, Ana Patricia / Rebecca were the last remaining Brazilians to fail in the quarter-finals against the Swiss Joana Heidrich / Anouk Verge-Depre the day before. Beach volleyball has been Olympic since Atlanta in 1996.
In Tokyo, medals will be awarded for the seventh time.
