The Khabarovsk Regional Oncology Center will receive the latest linear accelerator. The medical facility is planning to install it by the end of 2021. The equipment cost 200 million rubles, funds for its purchase were allocated within the framework of the national project to combat cancer.
A linear accelerator is a device that is most often used for external radiation therapy for malignant neoplasms of any tissue or organ. It ensures the delivery of photon fluxes to the tumor. In this case, the cells of the neoplasm are damaged, and the surrounding healthy tissues remain intact.
– A tunnel-type linear accelerator, Elite category, is a system of equipment similar in appearance to a CT scanner. The patient lies down on the couch, a snapshot is taken, the device “remembers” the position of the person. A collimator system is used – small petals that cover healthy tissues. The photon beam affects only a malignant formation, which was recorded by a computer tomograph. Children will also be able to undergo treatment. Our doctors regularly improve their qualifications, and in the near future they will go to study at the Dmitry Rogachev National Medical Research Center for Pediatric Hematology, Oncology and Immunology, – said the chief physician of the Regional Clinical Center of Oncology Yevgeny Shapiro.
The Regional Oncology Center will be the first in Russia to purchase such a modern system. Previously, there were no such devices for the treatment of malignant tumors in the medical institution of the region.
