Guillain-Barré syndrome was recorded at the beginning of the last century. This is an acute autoimmune disease in which the peripheral nervous system suffers – the muscles of the legs and arms are very weak. In severe cases, the disease threatens with paralysis of various body systems. British scientists have warned: Guillain-Barré syndrome can develop in people who have had coronavirus.
“As a rule, the syndrome develops after serious diseases associated with intoxication, these are pneumonia, viral diseases associated with parainfluenza, influenza, coronavirus,” said the chief physician of the medical clinic, neurologist Alexander Komarov.
The first symptoms of the disease are numbness in the hands, muscle weakness and impaired coordination. These problems were identified not only in those who had had severe covid disease, but also in those who had asymptomatic coronavirus.
“If suddenly a local doctor, an ambulance, a therapist saw such an ascending and rapidly developing syndrome, then you urgently need to call an ambulance, knock all the bells and the alarm, even transport the patient to the hospital on his own, because the syndrome develops very quickly,” he said. Alexander Komarov.
Lev Uvarov, a resident of Balashikha near Moscow, ran into Guillain-Barre seven years ago. He believes that then he survived by a miracle. The reason was never established. The disease developed rapidly, fortunately, the doctors quickly diagnosed and began treatment.
“From the onset of the disease until I was admitted to the hospital, 26 hours passed and in the next 8 hours my lungs simply failed. I could not move any part of my body except my foot and blink with one eye, ”said Lev Uvarov.
This spring, doctors identified another dangerous complication after suffering a covid. This is mucormycosis. It is also called “black mold”. It affects the eyes, nasopharynx, and lungs. They faced a dangerous disease in India. Those who suffered from coronavirus fell ill with mucormycosis. This is due to a severely weakened immune system. The number of cases of “black mold” is in the thousands, several Indian states have declared an epidemic of mucormycosis. And doctors around the world still remind that only vaccination can save from severe complications of the coronavirus.
