As Albuquerque airport and fire rescue officials said after the F-35 crash, the only person on board, the pilot, was conscious. He was taken to the University of New Mexico Hospital with serious injuries.
According to a press release from Kirtland AFB, the pilot was in stable condition as of the evening of May 28.
Two more civilians were assessed at the scene, but no one was transported, fire officials said.
According to the publication, the crashed plane was a new F-35. At the time of the crash, the Defense Contract Management Agency pilot was operating the aircraft as it was being transported from the Lockheed Martin plant for transfer into service.
Lockheed Martin said the F-35B was en route from Fort Worth, Texas, to Edwards Air Force Base in California when it crashed after refueling at Kirtland Air Force Base in New Mexico.

“The pilot ejected safely. Safety is our priority and we will adhere to the appropriate investigation report,” Lockheed Martin said.
The fire was extinguished at the scene, officials added.
“Flights have resumed, but check the flight status with your airline,” airport officials said.
