The first member of the Ukrainian-born US House, Victoria Spartz, is calling for tougher sanctions, immediate assistance and more military resources for Ukraine.
This is reported by the American edition of CNN.
The politician claims that the Ukrainian people demand more weapons, not troops, because the Ukrainians want to fight the Russian occupiers. She also takes the side of the refugees and draws attention to the horrors of the humanitarian crisis that is rapidly unfolding.
“I think we need to understand the situation in Ukraine. This is not a war. This is the genocide of the Ukrainian people by a crazy person who cannot understand that the Ukrainian people do not want to be in the Soviet Union, Spartz told CNN.
All this time, Spartz is experiencing emotional experiences behind the deployment of a bloody invasion of Ukraine. The politician has friends and a 95-year-old grandmother who are now in Ukraine.
– This is a massacre. This is the murder of the Ukrainian people. And the free world stands and watches. How many will he kill? Well, I’ll tell you: he will kill everyone, and as many as he can, if we don’t do something about it,” Victoria Spartz added.
Victoria Spartz was elected to the House of Representatives in 2020, making her the first member of Congress born in Ukraine.
Spartz twice addressed her colleagues behind closed doors to speak about the crisis in Ukraine: first in February, and then again on Tuesday, March 1, before Biden's first speech. Her last performance received a standing ovation, and those present called it powerful and touching.
