A meteor lit up the sky in northwest France

The flash of light recorded in the sky in northwest France late Sunday evening, September 5, was a meteor, the Vigie-Ciel Science Program reported.

According to scientists, we are talking about a fireball – a particularly bright meteor. It illuminated the skies of Brittany and Normandy for a few seconds at 11:47 pm on Sunday. The heavenly phenomenon was also seen in England.

The fireball was recorded by the Vigie-Ciel station in the English Channel and Morbihan. It is reported that the meteor passed over Brest.

Hundreds of people reported seeing a greenish flash in the sky and an object of “very impressive size”, some say they heard a loud sound like an explosion or a crash.

The Vigie-ciel science program recalls that a meteor is a light trail observed in the sky when cosmic dust or a small meteoroid enters the Earth's atmosphere at high speed. A meteoroid is a small particle from a few millimeters to several tens of centimeters in diameter that moves through space. If the meteoroid is massive, part of it can survive after entering the Earth's atmosphere. The meteorite is the very part of the meteroid that managed to pass through the atmosphere and reach the earth.
