EurekAlert Edition! published material, which reports that a neural mechanism responsible for the desire to eat was discovered in the brain. A corresponding study was carried out by scientists from the Baylor College of Medicine in the United States.
Experts have found that the mechanism itself includes two groups of neurons: DRD1-LPBN, which are responsible for the feeling of fullness, and DA-VTA, which are responsible for the production of dopamine. The study included experiments on mice. In particular, they suppressed the activity of DA-VTA and DRD1-LPBN, due to which the rodents began to eat more food than normal. At the same time, by stimulating these neurons, mice, on the contrary, lost interest in food.
It is noted that the human brain controls the desire to eat in a similar way. The results of this scientific work may lead to the development of drugs with which people can regulate the desire to eat, which can get rid of obesity.
