He covered more than 1,120 km.
A British man who sailed across the Atlantic Ocean to raise money for charity was found dead on his boat.
Ladbible.com writes about this.
Michael Holt began his solo boat journey from Gran Canaria to Barbados last month to raise funds for two charities.
However, a sad post on his Facebook page confirmed that Michael, 54, was found dead in his boat cabin days after he reported being seasick.
Michael's brother David shared the tragic news that they had been trying to help Michael for several days and that the men on the fishing boat, who had accepted the challenge of reaching the rower's coordinates, found the man dead.
On his journey across the Atlantic Ocean, he covered more than 1,120 km. During the trip, he had to overcome large waves, lose an oar, and even fight a shark that attacked his boat.
“This is a huge shock to me, his wife Lynn and daughter Scarlett, as well as my parents, not to mention wider family and friends,” David wrote, honoring his brother after breaking the sad news of Michael's death.
A message dated February 20 stated that Michael was “very unwell” and would be traveling to Sao Vicente Island in Cape Verde. A further update on Friday, February 23 stated that attempts to contact Michael had been unsuccessful and a search and rescue operation had been initiated.
Spotter planes were able to locate Michael's boat, but did not see it on deck, causing the fishing vessel Noruego and the tanker Omicron Atlas to head towards his position.
He previously swam across the Irish Sea himself to raise money for the local football team, Porthmadog. For his journey across the Atlantic Ocean, he set himself the task of rowing about 4800 km. Michael's fundraiser for Mind and Liverpool Charity and Voluntary Services is still available.
