Due to concomitant diseases, the patient was forced to take medications that weakened the immune system, and it could not produce antibodies against the virus.
A 72-year-old man died in the Netherlands after being infected with coronavirus for 613 days. In total, during his illness the virus mutated in his body 50 times.
This is reported by Bild.
According to the report, the man had other serious illnesses. The pensioner suffered from a bone marrow disease that affected his stem cells and red blood cells, and subsequently developed leukemia.
A Dutch pensioner was infected with the Omicron variant BA.1.17 in February 2022 and was treated at the University Hospital of Amsterdam. Despite receiving multiple Covid-19 vaccines, the patient had not responded to antibody treatment when admitted to the hospital.
Researchers found that the virus had developed a persistence mutation just 21 days after administration drug “Sotrovimab”. This means that the virus has quickly adapted to the active ingredient to fight it.
Due to the illnesses mentioned earlier, he was forced to take immunosuppressants. They weaken the immune system, which cannot produce antibodies against the virus.
In the end, the virus in his body mutated about 50 times. This case shows an example of what the coronavirus can do if it stays in the body for too long and can reproduce again and again.
The development of the patient's condition is nothing new to science, but the duration of the disease of 613 days is extraordinary.
Recall that a new study by the World Health Organization (WHO) shows that in Europe, coronavirus vaccines saved 1.4 million lives.
