A man from China complained for headaches and cramps, but waited more than a month before seeing a doctor. As it turned out, he had more than 700 tapeworms throughout his body, including in his brain.

43-year-old Zhu Zhong-fa from Hangzhou was left puzzled after his symptoms lasted more than a month. He decided to seek help from doctors at the First Affiliated Hospital of Zhejiang University Medical College.
Dr. Wang Jian-rong from the Department of Infectious Diseases conducted a medical examination of Zhu and diagnosed him with taeniasis. He also discovered more than 700 tapeworms in the patient's body.
Tapeworms, medically known as taenia solium, can usually be contracted by eating raw eggs. undercooked or contaminated pork.
Zhu remembered that he ate stew about a month ago and may not have cooked it thoroughly. The infection has already “damaged” the patient’s organs. According to the World Health Organization, when tapeworm eggs enter the central nervous system, they can cause neurological symptoms in the patient, particularly epileptic seizures.
Teniasis can be treated with laxatives and medications, but the dosage and duration of treatment may vary depending on the severity of the infection.
Doctor Wang explained, “In our daily lives, we tend to eat a lot of meat dishes, such as fried lamb and fried pork. If they are undercooked, the tapeworm eggs will remain alive when swallowed. And if you eat raw meat, there is a possibility that tapeworms can travel throughout the body and cause various diseases.”
Recall that the groom with cancer, who was on the verge of death, got married in the hospital. He stated that the wedding saved him and is now in remission.
