A lot of illegal migrants from Haiti have accumulated on the Texas border

In the US state of Texas, the influx of illegal migrants. About 12,000 people live in appalling conditions under a bridge in the city of Del Rio, CNN reports.

A week ago there were about 400 migrants, but over the past few days their number has increased several times. Del Rio Mayor Bruno Lozano said that more than 10,000 migrants, including families with small children and pregnant women, are waiting for their data to be processed by the migration service in extreme heat. They sleep in tents or on the ground, garbage accumulates in their places of stay, and almost no one wears medical masks. They lack water, food and medicine. Since Thursday, doctors have given birth to women who have arrived at the border, and ten babies have been born.

The number of refugees is either slightly decreasing or growing with a new influx. The head of the US Border Patrol Raul Ortiz believes that the reason for the gathering of such a crowd could be a rumor that the border in Del Rio is open.

Department of Homeland Security officials transport thousands of migrants to other places where the migration service is not so busy. Many will be deported back to Haiti, for which additional flights are planned. The American authorities are ready to give temporary protection only to those Haitians who were in the United States before July 29.

Texas Governor Greg Abbott wrote a letter to US President Joe Biden, asking him to declare a state of emergency due to the large number of migrants on the Del Rio Bridge. He stated that people who are trying to illegally cross the border between Mexico and Texas in Val Verde County pose a danger to local residents.

Most of the Haitians in the temporary camp have previously lived in South America after the earthquake in August and the assassination of President Jovenel Moise in July this year. They entered the United States from Mexico across the Rio Grande.
