In Russia, a new polygraph is being tested, which reads the movement of a person's eyes. This was announced to TASS by the head of the Research Institute of Criminalistics of the Investigative Committee of Russia, Alexei Bessonov.
“This equipment is already there, it is called“ eye-tracker ”or“ oculograph ”. Now it is being tested, and the scientific base is being prepared for its use, ”he explained.
According to Bessonov, specialized software will be used to analyze a person's reactions, which, by eye movement, “determines how sincerely he answered.”
“A person cannot control the dilation and constriction of the pupil, which reacts to emotionally significant information. Yes, it is possible to calm down and control the heartbeat by an effort of will, but a person cannot influence the pupil. Thus, oculomotor response equipment can detect whether this stimulus is significant to a person or not, ”he explained.
The head of the Research Institute of Criminalistics of the Investigative Committee of Russia also stressed that if a person has nothing to do with a crime and does not know about it, then his body will not react in a special way. You can also analyze speech, facial expressions, gestures.
“And if all these techniques are collected in a single device, then I think that hardly anyone will be able to compete with him in terms of concealing and distorting information of interest to the investigation,” concluded Bessonov.
