A janitor pretended to be a dentist and unnecessarily removed a man's four front teeth.

For his work he received 1000 Turkish lira.

A Turk was left in pain for more than a month after a cleaner pretending to be a dentist at a clinic in Istanbul removed his four front teeth.

Oddity Central writes about this.

According to documents filed with the Istanbul Civil Court, 42-year-old Hakan Yildirim, who was suffering from severe toothache, called a dental clinic in the Kyagithane district to make an emergency appointment. His call was answered by Cemal Shenaslan, who introduced himself as a dentist and advised Hakan to come to the clinic in the evening to examine and solve his dental problem. When the patient showed up at the clinic later that day, he was greeted by Şenaslan, who boasted that he taught at a dental university to make Yildirim feel more comfortable. The poor fellow had no idea that he would soon have to endure the most painful test of his life.

After a brief examination of the patient's teeth, Cemal Şenaslan said that the man needed to have his four front teeth removed. The shocked Yildirim said that, as far as he knows, teeth with an abscess cannot be removed, to which the clearly irritated “dentist” replied: “Are you teaching me my work?” As soon as he heard the man boast that he taught at the dental university, Hakan Yıldırım said nothing more.

Cemal Şenaslan anesthetized the 42-year-old and then proceeded to remove his four front teeth, insisting it was necessary and assuring him they would be replaced with a much better prosthesis. Yildirim underwent the procedure and even paid the 1,000 Turkish lira ($35) that the “dentist” asked for. He then went to the pharmacy with a prescription signed by Shenaslan.

Hakan Yildirim first began to suspect that he had made a terrible mistake in trusting Şenaslan when the pharmacist tried to charge him for a prescription. His statutory health insurance would cover the cost, and the pharmacist agreed, but the prescription did not have the doctor's stamp, so it was invalid.

The next day, the man returned to the dental clinic, where he learned the shocking truth. The doctor there, named Ibrahim, had no idea who he was, and when Hakan told him that Cemal Şenaslan had operated on him, the man looked both surprised and embarrassed.

“Cemal is my cleaner, he comes and cleans in the evenings,” the doctor told Yildirim.

Court documents mention that Hakan Yıldırım eventually ended up in the emergency room because he could no longer bear the pain. His face was swollen due to swelling, and there were bruises under his eyes. Apparently, the pain became bearable only after about a month.

“Cemal Şenaslan is completely guilty in this case,” Hakan’s lawyer Oguzhan Er told the court. “In addition to physical injuries, the client also suffered psychological trauma. For this reason, we want to recover 100 thousand liras ($3,500) from Cemal Shenaslan as compensation for moral damages along with interest.”

Recently, a court sentenced a fake dentist to 2.5 years in prison for practicing dentistry without a diploma and forced him to pay compensation to Yildirim for the injury he suffered.
