On June 27, in Gomel, local volunteers decided to organize holiday for refugee children from Ukraine. It was supposed to take place in the park of the Rumyantsev and Paskevich Palace. However, the Belarusian police dispersed the event.

On June 29, the police arrested one of the organizers of the holiday, Alla Karolenko, and on June 30 she was sentenced to 7 days of arrest.

According to the media, a 9-year-old girl from Donetsk region, who came to Gomel with her grandmother, on her 9th birthday asked Belarusian volunteers to organize an event. She wanted to sell paper “peace doves” and raise money for a gift. Local residents agreed to organize such an event for all refugee children from Ukraine. It was called “Name Day”. However, the Belarusian security forces did not like this, and they dispersed the action. The official explanation is that they were afraid of provocations.
