Eyewitnesses told SHOT that the outbreak occurred on the roof historic library building. It is not yet clear whether the exhibits located on the premises were damaged. Emergency Situations Ministry employees are extinguishing the fire.
The Russian State Library was founded in 1862 and is the largest public library in Russia, continental Europe and one of the greatest libraries in the world.
As of now, regarding the fire on the roof of the Russian State Library in the center of Moscow, an area of 5 square meters has already been eliminated.
According to a source of Russian media, it was burning protective structure of the sculpture on the roof of the building. According to preliminary data, repair work was carried out there and the builders did not turn off the heater. There were no casualties. Fire damage is being calculated by experts.
Recall that earlier a large fire broke out at an electrical plant in Moscow.
