In Germany, they tested a transport drone capable of transporting 200 kilograms of cargo over a distance of 40 kilometers.
According to the Tjournal portal with reference to the official website of the manufacturer of these drones, Volocopter, work on the system has been carried out since 2019. In the current tests, the drone showed a confident transfer of a large load at a height of 22 meters for 3 minutes. But this, of course, is a small part of the capabilities of the VoloDrone drone.
The machine is equipped with 18 electric motors with propellers, which are located on a circular frame with a diameter of 9.15 meters, the height of the drone is 2.15 meters. The VoloDrone chassis is made in the form of two runners. They can be loaded with oversized cargo weighing up to 200 kg. The vehicle is powered by heavy batteries providing a flight range of up to 40 km.
It is noted that while drones are capable of delivering goods only within line of sight, but by 2025 the manufacturer intends to launch an extensive network providing long-distance delivery of goods.
The source also reports that at the same time as cargo drones, Volocopter is developing unmanned taxis VoloCity, which are also planned to be launched in 2025.
