In Israel, a man went scuba diving and found a 900-year-old sword from the time of the Crusaders at the bottom of the sea. This is reported by Metro.
Shlomi Katzin was diving near the city of Haifa on Saturday morning, October 16, when he noticed several artifacts in the sand. The diver found stone anchors and pottery, but the most interesting find was an ancient sword about 130 centimeters long.
Despite the fact that the sword is completely covered with shells and houses of sea acorns, the Israel Antiquities Authority said that it was “preserved in perfect condition and is a wonderful and very rare find.” The department also said that the weapon is about 900 years old, and, most likely, it belonged to a crusader who participated in one of the crusades.
Experts said the sword was only now discovered thanks to the “sand shift” after the storm. It is also reported that the coast, near which the artifacts were found, in antiquity often served as a refuge for ships during storms, and quite a lot of similar finds can be made.
The antiquities discovered by Katsin will be put on public display after they have been cleaned and studied by archaeologists.
Earlier it was reported that in the Czech Republic a mushroom picker discovered an ancient sword in the forest. The man noticed a strange object sticking out of the ground, which turned out to be a Bronze Age weapon.
