A blogger and activist Yermek Narymabev, convicted in Kazakhstan, who had been hiding in Kiev for several years, was detained at the Alma-Ata airport. This was reported by the press service of the city prosecutor’s office, RIA Novosti reports.

According to the prosecutor’s office, Narymbayev was wanted. He was placed in a pre-trial detention center.

In 2016, Narymbayev was sentenced to three years in prison under the article “Inciting social, national, tribal, racial, class or religious discord.” In March of the same year, the sentence was commuted to restriction of freedom for the same period, after which the activist left Kazakhstan for Ukraine, despite the ban.

Narymbayev announced his return to Kazakhstan on January 23. On social networks, he said that he hoped for a dialogue with the authorities after returning to his homeland.
