It is known that the 113-year-old tree – a 28-meter-high Christmas tree – was brought to the Vatican from the northern region of Italy, Trentino.
The tree is decorated with 600 wooden ornaments. handcrafted by artisans and illuminated by low energy lamps.
A traditional nativity scene was also installed in St. Peter's Square, which is a gift from Peru and consists of more than 30 statuettes in traditional Andean costumes. The figures are made of ceramic, wood and fiberglass. Another nativity scene was housed in the Paul VI Audience Hall.
