Guterres called for an urgent ceasefire in the Gaza Strip.
UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres called the situation in the Gaza Strip a “crisis of humanity.”
The Voice of America reports this.
“The horror in Gaza is more than a humanitarian crisis, it is a crisis of humanity,” he said.
The Secretary General complained that as a result of ground operations and bombings in Gaza, hospitals, UN facilities, refugee camps, schools, mosques and churches were being hit.
In his opinion, Gaza is turning “into a cemetery for hundreds of children.” The UN Secretary General believes that both the parties to the conflict and the international community bear responsibility for the current situation.
At the same time, he acknowledged that Hamas is using civilians as human shields. Guterres called on Hamas to release all Israeli hostages.
Israeli response
In turn, the head of the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Eli Cohen, responded to Guterres' statements about civilians killed in the Gaza Strip as a result of Israeli bombing.
“Shame, Antonio Guterres. More than 30 minors – including a 9-month-old baby, as well as toddlers and children who witnessed the cold-blooded murder of their parents – are being held against their will in the Gaza Strip. The problem in the Gaza Strip is Hamas, not Israel's actions the destruction of this terrorist organization,” he said.
Earlier, Israel named a condition for a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip.
Let us remind you that Israeli troops have completely cordoned off Gaza City. According to media reports, street battles between the IDF and terrorists may begin in the near future.
