Two-time Russian boxing champion Georgy Kushitashvili, convicted of drug possession and assault on an employee of the Russian Guard, was selected for the national championship. This was reported on the website of the Russian Boxing Federation.

The athlete won the championship of the Central Federal District in the weight category up to 91 kilograms and will now be able to compete in the All-Russian competitions, which will be held from November 27 to December 6 in Orenburg.

Earlier, Kushitashvili was expelled from the Russian national team for life. The 24-year-old athlete twice won the national championship in the weight category up to 81 kilograms. In 2019, Kushitashvili became the quarterfinalist of the World Championship in Yekaterinburg.

On February 3, the boxer was arrested for two months. According to the investigation, he and his friend Hovik Hovhannisyan arrived at the house on the Frunzenskaya Embankment in Moscow at night in search of a cocaine bookmark, and ten minutes later Rosguard officers appeared at the same address. The footage from the surveillance cameras shows that one of the National Guardsmen has a broken nose. According to law enforcement agencies, he was hit by Kushitashvili. The athlete fully admitted his guilt and compensated the victim. The boxer received a three-year suspended sentence.
