A blow to Russia from “brotherly” Serbia: Vucic signs declaration condemning Putin's actions

In turn, Vucic responded to the accusation that Belgrade is allegedly "sitting on two chairs".

Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic signed the final declaration of the third Ukraine-Southeastern Europe summit, which took place yesterday, October 9, in the Croatian Dubrovnik.

This is what the indignant Russian propaganda media write about, considering Serbia “friendly” to Russia.

The declaration contains 18 points, among which is the recognition of the war in Ukraine as “a crime against the Ukrainian people, a violation of international law, including the UN Charter, and a great threat to peace, security and stability in South-Eastern Europe, the entire European continent and the world as a whole.”

The summit participants also confirmed “constant multifaceted support for Ukraine and its people for as long as it takes.” The parties supported the results of the Peace Summit held in Switzerland in June, as well as the Ukrainian peace formula. The signatories also condemn the invasion of Russian troops into Ukraine.

They still managed to “do a little harm”

At the same time, Vucic himself confirmed in an interview with Serbian media that he managed to change several important points of the Declaration. In particular, as reported by “Balkanski Oglyadach”, the President of Serbia “knocked down” the point that countries are obliged to join the EU's restrictive measures against Russia. In the end, only the need to support these measures is noted.

Vucic also insisted that the Declaration does not directly mention military aid.

“We can talk about any aid, but we did not want it to be written down directly and directly talk about military aid, so the word “military” aid was changed to something else,” said the President of Serbia.

In addition, he responded to the accusation that Belgrade is allegedly sitting on two chairs.

“We have one chair, the Serbian one. We will pursue our policy, and you will pursue yours. We have no problems,” said Vucic.

What interestingly, Serbian media noted that Vucic did not congratulate Putin on his birthday for the first time on October 7.

Earlier, the Financial Times reported that Serbia, a “brother” to Russia, secretly supplies Ukraine with ammunition.

ТСН.ua wrote about why many Serbs have pro-Russian sentiments and sympathize with the Putin regime. In particular, many Serbian militants have been fighting on the side of the Russian Federation against Ukraine since 2014.
