Google top manager Andrey Doronichev, who launched the mobile version of YouTube video hosting, quit Google after 14 years of work. He did not specify the reasons for leaving, but admitted that he was a little scared to leave the corporation. According to the IT specialist, he “almost forgot what it is like not to be in Google.” Earlier, Doronichev became one of the founders of the Mesto online platform, with the help of which Russian-speaking entrepreneurs can “find like-minded people and build something cool”.

Andrey Doronichev announced his dismissal from Google on Instagram.

“I quit my job at Google. Today is my last day. It feels strange: everyone is ending their summer, and mine is 14 years old. And pride, and joy, and a little scary, ”he wrote.

Doronichev compared his departure from the corporation with the completion of his studies at school and institute. According to him, during his work he “grew a whole new version of himself” and learned how to build products for the whole world.

“And today it’s like the last call and the presentation of the diploma. I leave the alma mater and walk into the world. Thanks google. It was the most incredible adventure in my life, ”said Doronichev. He added that after leaving Google, he will “explore life as an investor, entrepreneur and street musician.”

What did Andrey Doronichev do

Andrey Doronichev was born in Moscow. From the age of 14 he was in business; by his own admission, he managed to create 14 unsuccessful companies. One of his most successful projects was the Tapok content provider, which allowed users to download games, pictures and music to their phones, paying for them using SMS.

Later, Doronichev decided to leave the business in Russia and moved to San Francisco. Since 2007 he has worked at Google. He co-founded YouTube Mobile, the mobile version of the popular video hosting service. Also, an IT specialist worked on the Android operating system, led the direction of virtual reality, and since 2020 has been developing the Stadia gaming platform.

At the same time, Doronichev continued to invest in Russian projects. In 2019, he, together with a group of investors, invested $ 200,000 in the Russian educational startup U Skillz. In 2020, he co-founded the Russian-language online project Mesto, a community of investors and entrepreneurs. In April of the same year, Doronichev became one of the heroes of Yuri Dud's film about Silicon Valley “How the IT Capital of the World Works.”
