In France, several hundred cars were burned on New Year's Eve. This is reported by BFM TV with reference to the head of the French Ministry of Internal Affairs Gerald Darmanen.
The minister specified that the number of vehicles burned over the night from Friday, December 31, to Saturday, January 1, reached 874, but decreased compared to previous years – for example, in 2019, unknown persons destroyed over 1.3 thousand cars.
Darmanen also said that over 440 people were detained in the country overnight, of which about 380 were taken into custody. At the same time, the number of attacks on police officers decreased. The head of the department expressed gratitude to the police and gendarmerie officers who patrolled the streets of the cities on a festive night.
On October 27 last year, it was reported that about 20 hooligans in the city of Alencon in northwestern France staged riots, burned about 15 cars and attacked police and firefighters.
