Fifty countries issued a joint statement saying Russia abused its veto power by blocking a UN Security Council resolution condemning Russia's invasion of Ukraine.
According to CNN, the statement was read by US Ambassador to the UN Linda Thomas-Greenfield.
“Those of us here today continue to believe in the solemn duty and supreme purpose of the Security Council to prevent conflict and avert the scourge of war. Today Russia abused its power to veto our strong resolution,” Thomas-Greenfield said.
Prior to this, Russia used its veto power as a permanent member of the UN Security Council to block a resolution condemning its actions against Ukraine.
