3D printed bridge unveiled in Amsterdam

The Netherlands opened the world's first 3D-printed steel bridge. The press service of the University of Twente reported.

The structure was erected over the Oudezeits Achterburgwal canal. The bridge is temporary, in two years it will be replaced with the usual one, which is now undergoing restoration.

The steel footbridge was printed by robots. It took four and a half tons of steel to span 12 meters. It took six months to make the bridge.

This is not the first 3D-printed bridge, but the first made of steel. Prior to that, inventors printed a bridge from plastic and cement.
