3,600 euros fine for Viennese who boom on New Year's Eve

Fire hazard, risk of injury and noise pollution in lockdown: In Vienna there is also a fireworks ban on New Year's Eve.

Due to the current Corona restrictions, a particularly large number of Viennese will be at home this year in the last days of the year and over New Year's Eve. The noise that arises from roaring and crashing in residential complexes is therefore an even greater burden for many than in previous years. Housing Councilor and Vice Mayor Kathrin Gaal (SPÖ) and State Police President Gerhard Pürstl call on all people in Vienna to refrain from “New Year's Eve” of any kind: “Please think of your fellow human beings and refrain from igniting crackers at the turn of the year. Abuse of Pyrotechnics can have dire consequences for you and others. “

In Vienna there is a ban on fireworks on New Year's Eve and the police are busy around the turn of the year. Pyrotechnics hooligans and “detonators” of rockets, firecrackers, crackers and the like face fines of up to 3,600 euros. And unfortunately, serious injuries often occur.

In addition, misdirected New Year's Eve rockets repeatedly trigger fires on balconies, which represent a great risk for residents and neighbors – from single-family homes to community housing – and which can be very expensive for those who cause them.
