В 34-летнюю женщину в постели попал метеорит: событие навсегда изменило ее жизнь

The woman received only minor injuries, but her life changed dramatically.

A meteorite suddenly hit a 34-year-old woman in the US while she was sleeping in her bed. The American woman received minor injuries that did not threaten her, but it changed her life.

The Polish publication onet.pl writes about this.

A meteorite fell on a woman while she was sleeping

The event occurred on November 30, 1954. Several residents of the city of Sylacauga, Alabama, reported to local authorities a bright strip in the sky. They talked about a bright red light followed by a plume of smoke. Some suggested that it could have been a plane crash, while others believed that perhaps a missile from the Soviet Union entered US airspace. It turned out to be a 4.5 billion year old meteorite.

Ann Hodges, 34, had recently rented a house with her husband in the town of Oak Grove, near Sylacuga. Interestingly, there was a drive-in movie theater across the street with a neon sign depicting a comet falling from the sky. The woman decided to take an afternoon nap. At 2:46 p.m., her life changed forever.

As Mrs. Hodges lay on the couch, covered with a blanket, a meteorite crashed through the ceiling and struck her on the left side of her body. A piece weighing 8 pounds (3.8 kg) flew through the ceiling, bounced off a radio, and then hit the sleeping woman. It was part of a larger rock; the second piece fell in a field a few kilometers away.

Ann's mother, who was in another room, heard her daughter scream and quickly ran to help. After the meteorite hit, the house was filled with dust, but when it settled, the women noticed a stone and a huge bruise on Hodges' body. The police and firefighters were called. News of the meteorite's fall quickly spread throughout the area. When Eugene Hodges returned from work, a large group of people had already gathered outside his home.

“She had a large bruise on her hip. She was taken to the hospital, not because she was so badly injured that she needed to be hospitalized, but because she was very upset about the whole event. She was a very nervous person and she didn't like all the publicity and all the people around her. The meteorite came through the roof and bounced off the radio, which lessened the force of the impact. If she had been closer to the radio, she could have broken her leg or her spine. It probably wouldn't have killed her, but it would have hurt her a lot more,” Mary Beth Prondzinski, collections manager at the Alabama Museum of Natural History, told Business Insider.
