For the first time since 2017 there will be a “Derby of Love” on Friday. But before the meeting of the sports club and Vienna there was chaos.
With 6,500 fans, the duel between the two traditional Viennese clubs in the twelfth round of the Regionalliga Ost is sold out. The anticipation among the Viennese football fans for the first “small” Viennese derby in four years was almost unbroken.
However, the Corona rules that have been in force in Vienna since October 1 at major events caused chaos in front of the sports club square. Fans must provide proof of 2G upon admission. Access is only granted to those who have been vaccinated or recovered. This resulted in long battles in Alszeile or Hernalser Hauptstrasse.
Eyewitnesses reported long waiting times. One wrote on Twitter: “We haven't moved for 20 minutes.”
The kick-off was originally planned for 7.30 p.m. However, it could now be relocated.
